October Files

October Files is a series compiled by the editors of October journal (est. 1976).

At the forefront of contemporary arts criticism and theory, October focuses critical attention on the contemporary arts and their various contexts of interpretation: film, painting, music, photography, performance, sculpture, and literature.

Each book addresses a body of work by an artist of the postwar period who has altered our understanding of art in significant ways and prompted a critical literature that is sophisticated and sustained.

The series traces not only the development of important oeuvres but also the construction of the critical discourse inspired by it.
